Other Industrial Crops
Industrial crops are grown not for the fresh market but as raw material for a processing plant: sugarcane, cotton, oil palm, rubber, tobacco, safflower, henequen and other fibers. What defines the sector is the chain rather than the species — the field produces against the schedule and capacity of a mill, a gin or an extraction plant, and the crop is graded on industrial yield (recoverable sugar, lint, oil) more than on appearance. These are large-acreage, long-cycle crops that depend heavily on machinery and logistics.

Hiring centers on people who can sustain volume: agronomists and field extension technicians, area managers who service supplying growers, irrigation and crop nutrition leads, and harvest and crew supervisors. On the industrial side, companies look for lab and quality control staff, process technicians, mechanical and electrical maintenance, and scale, yard and haulage coordinators, since a delay in transport directly erodes the yield of the raw material. There is steady demand for plant health technicians and for field administration roles — grower contracts, settlements and input control. This is real field work: long hours in season, heat and dust, and weekend availability through the cane harvest, or zafra, and other harvest peaks.
Where it is concentrated
In Mexico, sugarcane is concentrated in Veracruz, Jalisco, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas, Nayarit, Oaxaca and Chiapas; cotton in the irrigated north (Chihuahua, Coahuila, Baja California and Sonora); oil palm and rubber in the humid southeast (Chiapas, Tabasco, Campeche and Veracruz); and tobacco in Nayarit. Comparable hubs in Latin America include south-central Brazil, Colombia's Cauca Valley, Guatemala's south coast and Tucumán in Argentina. Seasonality is pronounced: the cane harvest runs through the dry winter and spring months, and temporary hiring for both field and mill clusters around it.
