Production sector

Other Sectors

"Other sectors" covers the agrifood work that belongs to no single crop or species: input sales and technical development, machinery and irrigation, soil, water and residue laboratories, food safety and organic certifiers, trading and export, cold chain and agricultural finance. It also takes in diversified operations that mix grain, livestock, forage and sometimes an orchard on the same property, and crops that fit no single chain — culinary herbs, spices, seed production and trial ground — which employ skilled people even at small volumes.

Which roles it hires

This is the ground of profiles that cut across crops: the agronomist and technical sales rep for seed, plant nutrition or crop protection, who spends the day on a demo plot and still answers for a territory; the irrigation specialist who designs, installs and services pressurized systems; the farm machinery technician; and the lab analyst who holds up the food safety and residue side. On the desk side, companies hire trading and export staff, purchasing and supply people, quality and certification leads who prepare and walk auditors through the process, and a growing number of data, precision agriculture and software roles built for the field. Employers value this profile because it reads a vegetable crop and a forage the same way: the value sits in the process and in the relationship with the grower, not in one commodity. It almost always means travel — wide territories, long hours on the road, grower visits before desk time, and someone else's season setting your calendar.

Where it is concentrated

These jobs follow production, so they cluster where the volume is and where input companies and traders keep their offices: the Bajío —Guanajuato, Querétaro, Michoacán—, Sinaloa and Sonora, Jalisco, Chihuahua and the Laguna region, with a strong presence in Guadalajara, Culiacán, Hermosillo, León and Mexico City. Across Latin America the same map repeats around Buenos Aires and the Argentine littoral, inland São Paulo and Brazil's center-west, Chile's central valley, coastal Peru and the Colombian savanna. Seasonality belongs to the customer rather than to the role: selling months track the planting and application window, audits and certification renewals land ahead of harvest, and campaign close-outs concentrate the paperwork.
