Berries
The berry sector covers strawberry, blackberry, raspberry and blueberry: delicate fruit picked by hand, often several times a week over months. Most of it grows under macrotunnel or mesh, in substrate or conditioned soil, on drip irrigation and constant fertigation, and it is cooled the same day it is cut because shelf life is measured in days. The industry is oriented to fresh export and, to a lesser degree, to IQF freezing.

The sector looks for field agronomists specialized in fertigation, pruning and plant management —in berries, management sets flowering and quality, not just yield— plus plant health technicians fluent in biological control, since destination markets are strict about residues. Harvest and workforce roles carry real weight: crew supervisors, labor coordinators and social compliance leads, because the operation brings on a large workforce in a very short window. On the packing side there is demand for plant managers, quality and food safety technicians, and refrigeration maintenance staff. It is intense seasonal work, with pre-dawn starts and long weeks for as long as the plants keep bearing.
Where it is concentrated
In Mexico production centers on Michoacán —Zamora, Los Reyes, Jacona— along with Jalisco, Guanajuato and Baja California, with smaller acreage in Sinaloa, Puebla, the State of Mexico and Colima. Across Latin America, Peru leads in blueberry and Chile in blueberry and raspberry, with growing districts in Colombia, Argentina and Ecuador. The strong Mexican export window runs from fall into spring, with peaks that force growers to hire and train very quickly; summer goes to pruning, replanting and preparation.
