Administration and finance in a farming company turns hectares, day labor and kilos into numbers: cost per block and per crop cycle, budget, cash flow, payroll, invoicing and tax compliance. The day mixes desk work and operations: reconciliations, payables and receivables, electronic invoicing, review of input and custom-service costs, and putting the monthly close together. In many companies field payroll runs weekly and cannot slip: piece rates are calculated, attendance is validated with the crew leaders, and people get paid on time even when everything else is behind. There are trips to the warehouse and the field to verify input stock, consumption and progress by block, because an inventory you never walk is not an inventory. Month-end and harvest peak stretch the hours; the off season goes into budgeting, credit and audits.
What employers look for
Employers ask for accounting, business administration, finance or agribusiness, with verifiable accounting experience; management roles require having closed full fiscal years. In Mexico, command of electronic invoicing, social security filings and the tax regime for agricultural activities is expected, along with an ERP or accounting system and Excel at modeling level, not data entry. Understanding the business itself carries real weight — that the crop cycle does not match the calendar month, that harvest arrives all at once, and that costs pile up months before revenue — as does handling crop credit, crop insurance and government support programs where they apply.
Where it is in demand
The profile is hired by growers and agricultural trading companies, packing houses, greenhouses, cattle ranches, food processors, input distributors, cooperatives and the accounting firms that serve the sector. Demand is not concentrated in one region: these roles exist wherever there is a formal farming operation, from northwestern Mexico and the Bajío down to the south, and across Latin America wherever exporting forces the books to be in order.
