The Traffic Coordinator is an Individual Contributor responsible for coordinating transportation of all orders in the most efficient and cost-effective manner, which includes planning, coordinating, and scheduling of transportation from galvanizers, and contacting customers when orders are complete.
Essential Functions:
- Coordinate all day-to-day logistics activities for the transportation of products
- Monitor, analyze, and modify transportation methods to maximize asset utilization and minimize cost
- Prepare and maintain required loading and shipping documents including the master finisher schedule
- Effectively communicate with customers and dealers, coordinating delivery appointments with carriers, to meet company deadlines
- Expedite the transportation of products by trouble-shooting immediately when problems arise
- Adhere to and follow established transportation policies, procedures, and objectives
- Generate reports as required to support business or customer needs
Other Important Details about the Role:
- Understand and adhere to our customer’s dynamics, service expectations, goals, and initiatives as they relate to improving value for the customer and Valmont
- Work with freight rating and coordinating software, Transportation Management System (TMS)
- Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- High school diploma or GED equivalent and 2 years of experience or Associate’s Degree
- Minimum of 1 year logistics or traffic experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High attention to detail, ability to thrive under deadlines and work in a team environment, while also delivering independent results
- Strong prioritization skills, multi-tasking skills, and works with a sense of urgency
- Proficient in Internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
- 2 years of previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment
- Experience with warehouse inventory systems
- Experience with Traffic Management System (TMS)
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in both an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. Travel as needed less than 5-10%.
The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds in working with large files, binders, and boxes of paper. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
