Seed Engineer Co op
As a Seeds Engineering Co‑Op, you support the engineering design and execution of capital projects that enable Bayer’s Seed Supply and Breeding/Technology organizations; you help define and implement seed processing–intensive projects across multiple U.S. production locations, gaining hands‑on experience with front‑end engineering design, project management, and start‑up support while contributing to safe, efficient, and scalable seed production operations.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role are to:
- Support front‑end definition of seed processing–intensive projects, including development of functional specifications, process flows, capacity parameters, equipment layouts, process and control descriptions, and related technical documentation;
- Assist in preparing information required for environmental permits, including process descriptions, equipment details, and operating parameters;
- Contribute to building layouts, plot plans, and other site planning documents that ensure safe, efficient, and maintainable facilities;
- Participate in periodic project reviews, providing updates on scope, schedule, risks, and technical decisions;
- Support construction activities by helping coordinate contractors, clarifying design intent, and addressing field questions in collaboration with the Seeds Engineering team;
- Assist with equipment and system start‑up, including functional checks, performance verification, and troubleshooting to ensure successful commissioning of new or modified assets;
- Provide support to multiple seed production locations and multiple projects concurrently, sharing ownership for successful project outcomes and standard deliverables;
- Support project execution activities such as basic project management, administration, coordination, and procurement (e.g., gathering quotes, supporting bid evaluations, tracking orders);
- Collaborate with site operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure that project designs meet operational needs and support long‑term reliability and safety.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Agricultural Mechanization, or a related engineering program;
- Completed 1 year of a Bachelor's program;
- Interest in working in an applied engineering role supporting seed production facilities;
- Ability to work effectively on cross‑functional teams and communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical stakeholders;
- Willingness to travel as needed to support seed production locations across the United States during the Co‑op term.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;
- Agricultural background (e.g., farming, seed, grain, or related experience);
- Experience with seed production/processing or grain/bulk material handling equipment and systems;
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic engineering tools (e.g., CAD exposure is a plus).
Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $24.00 to $43.25. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc..
