The typical career path for an engineer begins in the position of Production Engineer. This position provides an opportunity for new engineers to join the plant management team, starting in the refinery or crushing operations, with the possibility of moving from there to other plants that produce a wide range of products such as baking ingredients, pasta, cocoa, gums, sweeteners, ethanol, vitamins, oils, etc. Recent engineering graduates are assigned to a production unit where they gain first-hand exposure to the leadership of employees, equipment trouble-shooting, and dealing with the myriad of challenges faced routinely in a facility that operates around the clock, 365 days per year. The experience begins with on-the-job training through observation and typically progresses to full responsibility for a workgroup working rotating shifts during the first year. This experience is invaluable in providing firsthand knowledge of the plant, processes, products, and employees in the real world of manufacturing at ADM.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Production Engineer applies engineering principles and technical expertise to support safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations within a food processing environment. This role is responsible for monitoring production processes and equipment performance, identifying and resolving operational issues, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, quality, and cost effectiveness. Responsibilities may include evaluating equipment capacity requirements, assisting with equipment sizing and process design, supporting the development and optimization of process control systems, and identifying opportunities to improve material flow, throughput, and overall operational efficiency. The Production Engineer also participates in the installation, commissioning, start-up, and modification of production equipment, ensuring that operational, training, safety, and performance requirements are effectively addressed. Working closely with operations, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams, the incumbent gains exposure to a broad range of manufacturing processes while supporting plant objectives and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. The role operates across various food processing plant environments and performs all other duties as assigned.
